Bono Admits He's Overpaid
With multi-platinum-selling albums, sold-out tours and a whole slew of partnerships, Bono isn't too worried about his finances -- and he knows it, too."I've been blessed and I've been over-rewarded for what I do, and I'm trying to give my time and my resources but you know, I'm a rich rockstar, so shoot me," the U2 frontman told London's Daily Mail after launching his next (RED) project with Nike -- Lace Up Save Lives.
He also added that he's enjoying his lifestyle and while he can be "a pain the in a--" talking about all his causes, it's something the entire band feels strongly about.
Although U2 has been at the forefront for helping developing countries, especially with the AIDS crisis in Africa, the band has been under fire for how they have gone about helping out. Oxfam and a few other charities criticized the band for moving their business to the Netherlands, which has no tax on royalties -- depriving Ireland of revenue and lead to cutting its overseas budget to help other countries. Environmentalists also attacked the band earlier this summer for the huge carbon footprint U2 created during their sold out U2360 world tour.
Despite all the negative comments, Bono doesn't mind it as long as the critics are helping the cause. "I think it's OK to criticize me as long as the ones who are doing so are doing their bit," he said. "You can still contribute even if you are not as fortunate as I am."
