Newly-discovered footage of Pink Floyd band playing 'See Emily Play' on a 1967 edition of the now-defunct show, 'Top of the Pops,' is set to delight the band's legions of fans.Though the film was incredibly damaged, experts at the British Film Institute (BFI) have partially restored the recording and it will be screened to the public at the BFI South Bank's 'Missing Believed Wiped' event on Jan. 9 in London.
The footage was discovered by archivist Bill Harrison who found the tape when he was sorting out an anonymous rock star's audiovisual collection. Though the sound was present, the visuals wouldn't show up on a contemporary monitor so he handed the tapes over to the BFI.
Speaking to Mojo magazine, the BFI.'s Dick Fiddy said, ''We gave the tape to the archive boffins. It was in a dreadful condition, with the oxide falling off. The best possible picture quality was recovered.''
Little footage remains of the 60s editions of 'Top of the Pops' thanks to the BBC's policy of re-using tapes for other recordings or simply dumping the cumbersome VTs.
