Green Day fans curious to see how their arena-ready pop punk will translate to the Broadway stage can get a taste of what to expect with a new version of '21 Guns' performed by the 'American Idiot' cast alongside Billie Joe Armstrong and co. Featuring Tony Award-winner John Gallagher, Jr., the song captures the original's bombastic energy while re-working the arrangement for added theatrical flair.Although most of the songs in 'American Idiot' will come from the album of the same name, '21 Guns' is one of the few from Green Day's most recent album '21st Century Breakdown' to be included in the show. According to Armstrong, "We wanted to record '21 Guns' because it represents a pivotal moment in the show when the lead character ... realizes he needs to get his s--- together."
And as for the final product? "I couldn't be happier. It's great to have something out there for people to hear who didn't get to see the show."
