Doveman, 'Breathing Out' -- Video Premiere

Doveman's newest video for 'Breathing Out' may look sparse at first, with two shots making up the entirety on the video. But when one listens to the lyrics, the melancholic quality of Thomas Bartlett's voice and the placid sound of the piano, this video immediately makes sense.

The main idea behind the shots in this video is motion. Most of the video is comprised of a passing landscape (first seen only in red, then changed to color) that is seen through the eyes of an unknown person aboard a train. A second shot is also included, which shows a girl from the waist down running. Even though it may be limited in what it shows, the lyrics and melody tie together beautifully with this video. Bartlett sings about a lover who is leaving, almost whispering, "You're leaving now/In the end it all falls down/And I'm just here breathing out again." The motion of the train and the girl running allude to fleeing from something, whether it is a person, place or way of life.

Bartlett recruited musician/songwriter Marc Anthony Thompson (aka Chocolate Genius) to direct the video. "I asked Marc, one of my favorite songwriters and musicians, to make a video for a song of his choice from 'The Conformist,'" Bartlett tells Spinner. "He captured something essential about the song in a few simple images."

"I rarely make films for other people," Thompson adds. "I pick up my camera for very few reasons: The hotel has good light. The music inspires me. My lover isn't shy. 'Breathing Out' matched 2 of my criteria." Watch the awe-inspiring video below.
