In what will be seen as a return to her roots, Cat Power has revealed her next album, the follow-up to 2008's covers album 'Jukebox,' will be recorded entirely by herself. In an interview with Australian newspaper the Courier Mail, the troubled singer -- real name Chan Marshall -- confirmed she was dispensing with the services of her regular backing band, The Dirty Delta Blues Band. Featuring members of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and the Dirty Three, they will, however, back her on her January tour of Australia and New Zealand.
She told the paper: "It's just me this time, I'm at a point where my heart tells me, 'Chan, you haven't played piano or guitar for four or five years,' and I do have guilt about that.
"People ask me, 'When are you going to play by yourself?' I have problems with strange yearnings and guilt."
The new album would be Marshall's first album of original material since 'The Greatest' was released in 2006.
She continued: "Instead of 'Jukebox' I was going to put out another record. I didn't get back to those songs and I kept writing more and more. I'm also frightened because some of them are sad again, and I feel really nervous about that."
