Indie darlings the Cribs criticised a section of their own fanbase over the way support band, punk legends the Slits, were treated during their slot at the Doncaster Dome on Saturday (Dec. 5).According to reports, the all-female band found itself being pelted by a combination of coins, beer and other objects, leading the Cribs to label this minority as "dickheads with the loudest mouths."
Speaking with NME, the band said they considered cancelling the gig.
"We were in two minds about what to do during their set," the Cribs explained. "Do we pull the show? No, that would be letting them win and making the night all about their behaviour. So we played."
They continued: "The thing that bothered us most is that this reception can't possibly have been anything to do with the music.
"Also, just to make it clear, these people [crowd members throwing items] didn't bother or upset the Slits... the way the Slits carried themselves, was not only a moral victory but also pretty moving."
