"I watched 'The Price is Right' as a kid and I was always fascinated by what he did," W.K. tells Spinner. "Though the show didn't change too much, he was always able to make it interesting for me."
While Andrew W.K. filmed the second season of 'Destroy Build Destroy' in October, a vision of Barker was usually in the back of his mind. "I think about him all the time. I'm really not like him. I don't know if I ever could be like him, but maybe there are similarities. Just that he was very unto himself and seemed clearly to be enjoying it or he wouldn't be doing it. You had the sense that you were watching someone who wanted to be doing what they are doing and that upped the entertainment factor a huge amount."
"The show is a bit of a game show," he adds of 'Destroy Build Destroy,' which pitches teams against each other to destroy something, rebuild it imaginatively and then destroy it again. "A lot of the shows I watched growing up as a kid, which includes 'The Price Is Right,' had some kind of appeal beyond just watching the show. You get interested in the fact that there are these kinds of people like Bob who do these jobs."
W.K., the king of the adrenaline rush, counts himself a rookie in the hosting business, but he thinks that the two might also share a love of that performance high. "Someone like Bob Barker, who did TV for so long, clearly must have got hooked on it," he says.
