Norah Jones will join the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and many more to honor Neil Young on Jan. 29 as the MusiCares Person of the Year. As has been the tradition for the past 19 years of MusiCares, Jones and the other artists will perform Young's songs as part of the dinner. But she tells Spinner she doesn't know which song she'll be doing yet. "I want to choose soon, but luckily there are so many great Neil songs I feel pretty good. If the song I choose is taken there are so many more I would love to play," she says. "I'm super excited."What would be her first choice of song to play? "I don't know, maybe 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' would be a fun one to do," she says. "I've been listening to that album a lot this month, so right now that's on my mind. But I would do 'Tell Me Why.' There are so many."
Performing a Neil Young song for the man himself might make a lot of artists nervous, but Jones has a leg up having actually performed one of his songs with him. "I've done the Bridge School show a couple of times and the last time we did we one of his songs called 'When God Made Me,' from the 'Prairie Wind' album. He came out and sang a little with us and played pump organ," she recalls. "It was a really special moment for me because he's definitely one of my heroes, my favorite guitar player."
