Although they've been threatening a name change for some time, the all-star project known as Surprise Me Mr. Davis has kept its moniker and added a fifth member. Keyboardist Marco Benevento (Benevento/Russo Duo) joins the group, which also includes the entire avant-rock trio the Slip and is fronted by folk troubadour Nathan Moore. The band is now streaming recently-recorded tracks on its new official website.
"On our way to Montreal to make our demo, I got turned away at the border," Moore tells Spinner. "We ended up cutting the tracks in a garage in Burlington, Vt. in two days. I like to call this collection, 'Finding Demo.'"
As for why, exactly, he's not allowed in Canada and as for what plans the band has with these tracks beyond streaming them, Moore sent Spinner the following text from the road: "Long story and still not sure." Sounds about right. Just please keep the surprises coming, Mr. Davis -- America loves you.
