Flushed with the success of letting YouTube take creative control of their video-making process for 2008 single 'Pork and Beans,' it seems Weezer are now outsourcing song production too. "I wrote this tune, 'Shusui'," frontman Rivers Cuomo told the band's Radio Weezer. "Now I want to write the lyrics. Before I do that, I'd like somebody to produce a better demo of the music. I'll pay you $208."
This isn't the first time Cuomo has recruited fans to do his job for him. Last year he composed the as-yet-unreleased track 'Turn It' after soliciting contributions via a series of videos titled 'Let's Write a Sawng.' But that collaborative process didn't offer the princely sum of around £130, suggesting a few eager Weezerites might be feeling a bit stiffed right now.
Perhaps we should cut the singer some slack. He is, after all, currently recuperating from a nasty tour bush crash which left him with a punctured lung and caused the cancellation of Weezer's US tour in support of latest effort 'Raditude'. With that in mind, and being a dab hand with GarageBand, we'd like to offer our services. We'll take your $208, Cuomo, but we want 5% production royalties and a co-songwriting credit.
