Rage Against the Machine Deny Conspiracy Theory
- Posted on Dec 23rd 2009 6:41AM by Julian Marszalek
No sooner has the dust begun to settle around the Christmas number one furore and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has hit back against conspiracy theories suggesting that the whole event was orchestrated by Sony Records in an attempt to dominate the seasonal charts. Both Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing in the Name' and Joe McElderry's 'The Climb' were on by the major label.
Speaking to NME, the guitarist said: "That's the most ridiculous thing! I couldn't even get a return email from Sony UK. I was like, 'Are we still on your label? Something's happening over there' and nobody hit me back."
Morello was fulsome in his praise for UK fans: "It was tremendous, it was an incredible campaign to make a hard-hitting political song Number One with a budget of zero, and it outmatched this enormous machinery.
"Ordinary people, when they band together in solidarity, can do extraordinary things."
Rage Against The Machine are now in the early stages of planning a free UK gig as a "thank you" to the fans who sent them to the top of the festive UK charts.

I first heard this tune in 92 and love what it stands for. Reminds me of the Tofu Love Frogs in as much as the lyrical strength. :Didn't come here cos of you I came here cos of them and we had them on the run and we can do the same again, I believe in direct action I believe in fighting back, fascists on the street it's like I'm under attack, so here we stand together on the same side if it all kicks off I wont run I won't hide, we share the same enemies but you aint my friend RED ACTION - it's all b*ll*cks cos in the end you want power strength and order your just like the fash, you made it pretty clear that you would have a lash at any other anti fascist didnt do what you tell em to, so thank f*** you aint a threat or I'd be coming after you....
Theres a lot of people who dont realise yet that there is a whole world of music out there to enjoy and that some people really do live in "the Matrix" so give peace a chance and educate, not hate. Lots of love Shandy McTavish 111 Ps well done ratm and all of you who are starting to get it.
exactly - its a great sign of what a truly democratic process can produce. It highlights many peoples disaffection with a corrupt system - politicians and bankers get real......
