Van Morrison a Father Again at 64
- Posted on Dec 29th 2009 9:00AM by Julian Marszalek
Proving that it's never too late to achieve anything in life, Celtic soul brother Van Morrison has become a father again at the ripe old age of 64 with his wife and manager Gigi Lee.A brief statement on the singer's website simply reads: "Gigi and Van Morrison are proud to announce the birth of their firstborn son George Ivan Morrison III. 'Little Van' born Dec. 28 2009 -- the spitting image of his daddy. He is a dual citizen of Northern Ireland/United Kingdom and the United States of America."
The couple have kept the location of the birth secret.
Van Morrison's first child is 39-year-old singer-songwriter Shana Morrison. He was previously married to Janet Minto.
Morrison started his 45-year career as the front man of Them, scoring hits with 'Gloria' and 'Here Comes the Night', before launching a solo career that has touched upon soul, jazz, R&B, country and blues. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 but famously refused to appear.
His more recent activity saw him perform his 1968 classic album, 'Astral Weeks', in its entirety in 2008.

it certainly is his right to have a child, however he couldn't have done it without a woman much younger so that should have told him something. he may live a very long life and do just fine but the odds are against that its a fact of life. no one wants to get old but sometimes we have to face that fact and find other ways to be happy.

I guess they all must have had "young" that didn't know to teach them correctly about keeping their dirty little mouths shut.Just goes to show which way the world has turned. I say congratulations to any new parents and celebrate the life God has granted.

Has anyone even thought of that or did I miss something? He could live another 20 or 30 years for all you know. If his wife is much younger, she could be here for another 40 or 50 years. Who are all of you people to know what is best for the world?
December 29 2009 at 9:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replywow....i agree with laura. who are you all to judge. for everyone who is born, there is someone who will say, the parents are too young, the parents are too old, the parents are too poor, the parents have too many kids, their home is too small, they don't dress the kind right...get over it and live ur own pathetic lives and leave them to live their own without your unrequested input. if the child is loved that is all that matters, there are too many children born to young, rich parents who live in great homes and show their kids no love and attention, resulting in some of the psycho adults out there. and every indication is that the child will be loved and you should just leave it at that and wish them the best.

After Sarah died he married Keturah and fathered 6 more sons (Gen 25:1-6). So the oldest age someone has fathered a child is way beyond Mr. Morrison. And it was good or you wouldn't be here dear. :)

one smells age-ism in your thoughts.
who 'determines' what is older?
one senses you feel that these folks were 'irresponsible' for having a child 'at their age'.
while i do agree with you that just because we can have a child doesn't mean we should, 'who' is to determine 'who' gets to 'have' children? i see people (younger and older) all the time who should have never had children, but it's not my 'job' to tell them they shouldn't.it's their 'right'.
i completely agree with andi. my parents could have had me when they were wee tikes and then died through some cause.
there are no guarantees, bunnie.
Thanks, Lee, for smoking everyone off Van's ass for being too old to reproduce. Obviously you're the only ass here and I pray you don't reproduce. The Morrison's brought a child in the world out of love. Cannot imagine what your motive would be. Except, perhaps, some misdirected desire to have prodgeny as f'd up as you are. That goes for your wife too for putting up with a jackass like you.

However I'm 67 yoa, retired military, fought in two war, lost a r. leg(below the knee) in vietnam, have 14 grands, and one great grand comming in Jan.. I recently rode my motorcycle with my 71 yoa friend from Chas. SC to Key west and back(1670 mi.)in three days. I am open ocean dive qualified, and single engine airplane qualified.
GOD gives us all only today.
He should have spent the money to have his ugly old yellow teeth whitened, it does work even on ugly stained teeth like his. And I know people of all ages can get pregnant or father a child, vigara, in vitro, whatever. That doesn't make it a wise choice, I guess since nannies & housekeepers, etc., will be taking care of the child they don't care. Most older people have health issues, plus they just can't keep up. And NO 64 isn't the new 44 LOL.
