Coldplay's auction of their gear and memorabilia -- which they advertised with a mock department store advert last month -– has raised more than £250,000 ($404,000) for a London children's charity. The End of Decade Clearout Sale auction on eBay raised £251,482 for charity Kids Company.
Guitarist Jonny Buckland's Viva Thinline '72 Tele guitar, which fetched £15,000 ($24,300), and an outfit worn by Chris Martin in the band's 'Strawberry Swing' video, were among the items which sold.
In a post on the band's website, Coldplay.com, the group thanked their fans for taking part.
It said, "The text messages were flying around last night and it's fair to say that the band are just as excited/grateful/amazed by the enormous total as Kids Company are. A huge thanks to everyone who bid and helped make the Clearout Sale such a success."
The charity, based in south London, helps underprivileged children who lack adult support. It's not the first time the band have helped out -- in September it was revealed they had given £1m ($1.5m) to the charity and had promised to give music lessons at its various centres.
