What's That Song From the Lincoln MKT Commercial?

Lincoln's new ad for the MKT SUV showcases the luxury car maneuvering against a dark sky, highlighted only by a moving beam of light -- a concept that's not particularly unique for a car commercial. However, there is one thing that sets this one apart: the haunting, appropriately titled song that serves as its soundtrack.
'Under the Milky Way,' performed for the Lincoln commercial by Sia (also of 'Six Feet Under' finale fame) is actually a cover of a 1988 hit by her fellow Aussies, the Church. The song, co-written by the neo-psychedelic band's singer and bassist, Stephen Kilbey, and his girlfriend at the time, Karin Jansson, was written about a music venue in Amsterdam that Kilbey used to frequent, called the Melkweg. Melkweg translates to 'Milky Way' in English, hence the title.
The tune itself has a melancholy tone to it and lyrics that are about feeling lost and in awe of the huge universe in which we are living. Some of you may also recognize the song from the cult film 'Donnie Darko.' Although the original version cannot be outdone, Sia's sultry voice delicately moves this classic out of the 1980s and into the now, bringing a dreamier quality to the song. The slightly modified music gives it a contemporary feel, as well.
Sia's work with the band Zero 7 has been highly praised, and she has also written songs for Christina Aguilera's upcoming release -- Sia refers to the pop diva as her "best friend." Sia's own album (her fifth), 'We Are Born,' is scheduled to be released in April.
