Perhaps inspired by Jack White's Third Man enterprise, My Morning Jacket's Jim James has announced plans to launch a new record label, Removador Recordings and Solutions, with his cousin and frequent collaborator Johnny Quaid. Getting off to an active start, James -- who continues to insist on going by the handle Yim Yames -- and former MMJ member Quaid have lined up three new releases for the first quarter of 2010."Whether it's collaborating with his band mates, recording guest vocals or hand-picking opening acts, My Morning Jacket's Yim Yames has always radiated a spirit of camaraderie with his fellow musician," a press release announcing Removador explains. The new business venture intends to "help connect the dots between an ever-growing artistic community that Yames is a part of" and serve as "an online platform to shine a light on some of the musicians that he admires and would like to share with the world."
Removador promises to reflect Yames' "eclectic taste and steadfast passion for music," when it launches 'Boys', the second full-length record by style-hopping chanteuse Cortney Tidwell, on Jan. 19. Next month, on Feb. 16, it will drop 'Slight Spell,' the debut disc by the Ravenna Colt, a band helmed by Quaid.
Removador says the latter "combines its myriad influences into a dark, spacious plane, highlighting its cosmic yet truly American style." It will then release 'Mercury,' a nine-song album from Follow the Train, on Mar. 16. Describing the band, the label says it's "a potent and volatile mixture that pays tribute to the shoe-gazers of the late 1980's and early 1990's."
