I have been following Mayer since "Room for Squares" and his independent album, with tunes like "Victoria." He was a good player when he started -- but I think the pop sensation's real talent was hidden to a certain extent behind the glamour and demand for songs like "No Such thing" and others off "Room for Squares" album.
Now in "Continuum" and "Battle Studies" and all the work he does and has done with music giants like Jordan, Paladino, Buddy Guy, etc., his talent soars above other guitar players of his era in age. The guy can play the guitar, hands down.
