Doves to Play UK Forest Gig
- Posted on Jan 12th 2010 5:01AM by Matt Glazebrook
Doves are set to return to their woodland roots with a gig in Suffolk's Thetford Forest on Jun. 12. The performance is a part of series of copse-based musical events organised by the Forestry Commission and tickets will go on sale this Friday morning (Jan. 14). Doves previously announced that they will grace the main stage at the Isle of Wight Festival on Jun. 11 immediately before the Thetford show. They join Simply Red, Keane and James Morrison on the summer-long schedule of Forestry Commission-sponsored events.
Thetford Forest was first planted to help restore Britain's depleted timber stocks after the First World War and today is the country's biggest lowland pine forest, spanning some 50,000 acres on the Suffolk, Norfolk border.
Spinner can only assume Doves were chosen for this prestigious, leafy billing due to their habitat-specific name. Expect, perhaps, to see Deerhoof, Wolf Parade and Grizzly Bear similarly surrounded by verdant splendour at future environmentally-themed outdoor showcases.
