Aside from penning such pop classics as 'Oh, Pretty Woman' and 'Only the Lonely,' Orbison's career was influential for the four decades he was active. He toured with Johnny Cash and hung out with Elvis during the Sun Records heyday, found pop success with the song 'Running Scared' and resurfaced in the 1980s as a member of the Traveling Wilburys supergroup, where his trademark baritone joined George Harrison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
On Dec. 6, 1988, Orbison died of a heat attack just as he was at the height of his resurgence. While his early career is certainly influential, he won Grammys for collaborations with k.d. Lang, his work with the Wilburys and for his last release, 'Mystery Girl.' Congrats, Roy!
