Beck and Pixies Pay Tribute to Jay Reatard

The unexpected death of Jay Reatard yesterday has deeply affected the indie rock community, prompting icons of the genre to pay tribute to the 29-year-old fallen star.

Beck took to his official site, posting a picture of Reatard along with the late musician's rendition of 'Gamma Ray.' Beck originally released the track as a single in 2008.

Elsewhere, the Pixies camp took to Facebook to express their sympathy. The band wrote, "We want to express our condolences to the friends and family of Jay Reatard on his sudden passing today."

Reatard -- who was born Jimmy Lee Lindsey -- was found dead in his bed in his Memphis home at approximately 3:30AM. Wednesday morning. Police in the city are investigating the circumstances around his death.
