With its four, increasingly infectious hit singles spanning the year -- from December 2008's 'Quicksand' to September's 'I'm Not Your Toy' -- and dominating the airwaves, La Roux's self-titled debut was one of the most ubiquitous records of 2009. Now, it seems the electro duo's record label think they may be a few people in Britain who haven't heard it yet, and are looking to cash in.At the behest of label Polydor, 'La Roux' has been yanked from the free version of invite-only music streaming site Spotify. Users hankering for some '80s influenced synth pop are now instructed that the tunes are only available as a 'premium exclusive' on the paid-for version of the popular service.
"The rights holders have asked that we remove La Roux's album from the free service as of this week, so it's currently only available to subscribers," a Spotify spokesperson told blog Music Ally. "We look forward to adding La Roux back for all of our users in the near future."
Sensing that the earning potential of 'La Roux' may not yet be exhausted, it seems that Polydor are trying to put the genie back in the bottle:. It's an awkward task at the best of times, made even harder when the genie in question has a giant, pointed quiff.
