Discopunk revivalist James Murphy has said that LCD Soundsystem's upcoming new studio album may well be the New Yorkers' last. The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2007's acclaimed 'Sound of Silver' is set for release around April, with Murphy telling NME, "I don't tend to name my albums until they're completely done. I always have a fake title that is the worst title I can think of while I'm working on it....This new record is called 'Internet Sensation!' with an exclamation mark."
Murphy also hinted however, that the third album could be the last one, saying, "When I'm working on [an album] it makes sense to think of it as the last you'll ever do because then you make it good."
Murphy, one half of DFA's production team, has described the new record -- recorded with regular collaborators, Pat Mahoney and Hot Chip's Al Doyle -- as "definitely better than the other two," explaining further, "What I tried to do on the second record [Sound of Silver] was to make a much more wider and strange-sounding record [than LCD Soundsystem], but I ended up making something more cohesive. This time round I'm not sure what I'm trying to do ... but I think I am doing what I was trying to achieve on Sound of Silver, which was a wider palette of sound."
In the same interview, 39-year-old Murphy also professes that LCD Soundsystem may not tour anymore, saying the next tour they do "should probably be the last."
