Our friends at SnagFilms are letting non-native New Yorkers can keep up with what's new and hot on the city's music scene. Thanks to a series of webisodes called 'NYCMusicShow,' viewers can learn about and listen to upcoming, New York-based musicians. In a recent episode of the show, we meet electronic dance rockers, ReRedux. A side project of Brazilian Girls' Didi Gutman and Aaron Johnston, ReRedux formed after their bandmate Sabina Sciubba learned that she was pregnant. Unlike their former trio, ReRedux is an entirely instrumental outfit, and Gutman and Johnston, along with producer/engineer Hector Castillo, wanted the main focus to be the music. "We're not creating songs," Castillo says. "We're creating instrumental music to dance to. We're not constricted by a vocal that's gonna tell you a story -- the story is in the sound."
ReRedux's sound incorporates drums, synthesizers and a variety of other physical sounds, and writing and recording the songs "a constant building process." "When we started this project, we didn't want to rehearse," says Gutman. "We would rather just throw ourselves out in front of a crowd and play."
