Death Cab for Cutie will pay homage to John Hughes tonight when it performs a song synonymous with one of the late director's most memorable films. Taking the stage at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, the Ben Gibbard-fronted foursome will take onSimple Minds' classic song, 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' from 'The Breakfast Club.'"We are truly proud to help pay tribute to the late John Hughes," bassist Nick Harmer said in a statement. "His films were important waypoints for us to use as we navigated the uncertain waters of growing up and even now still give us so much perspective, insight and laughter about those uncomfortable years. We honor him and will continue to celebrate him with our music and through his films for years to come."
The 59-year-old Hughes died in August, 2009 from a heart attack. His use of 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' in the film propelled the song to No. 1 on the US charts in 1985. His other films also featured music by Psychedelic Furs, the Smiths, New Order, Jesus and Mary Chain and Echo and the Bunnymen. The Critics' Choice Movie Awards will be broadcast at 9PM ET on VH1 tonight.
