On Friday, CNN confirmed that Haitian hip-hop artist Jimmy O is one of the casualties of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that shook Haiti on January 12. His body was found in a car in downtown Port-au-Prince and it is believed he was crushed in the vehicle when the earthquake struck.
Jimmy O (whose real name is Jean Jimmy Alexandre) worked for Wyclef Jean's charitable organization Yele Haiti, which has been in the news this week for its disaster relief efforts in the earthquake-ravaged nation. A Port-au-Prince native, Jimmy O was signed to Jean's label, Sak Pase Records, and according to his MySpace page he was preparing to release his debut album, 'Destiny,' featuring an impressive list of special guests including Jean, the Game, Will.i.am and Akon.
During a CNN interview earlier this week, Jean pleaded with viewers to help find Jimmy O's whereabouts. Upon discovering and verifying the body, his agent, Henry Robert Dominique, told CNN at the scene that "his loss will be tremendous in Haiti."
