Good news, Weezer fans. Rivers Cuomo will return to the stage with his band next week now that his doctors have given him the go-ahead to resume performing. Cuomo was seriously injured in a bus crash in upstate New York on Dec. 6, which forced the cancellation of Weezer's remaining 2009 dates. In a Twitter post, Cuomo announced he was set to go for the band's Florida State gig next Wednesday. "Doctor says my lung is all healed -- cleared to fly to Florida for the show. Turns out I broke 5 ribs!!!"
After returning by bus to Los Angeles by mid-December following a week of hospitalization for a punctured lung, Cuomo has been on the mend. His tweets reveal he has spent time working with the band in the studio, hitting the park and reading the Berenstain Bears to his young daughter.
The Tallahassee gig is a one-off for the FSU student body, who won a contest sponsored by T-Mobile, Motorola and Facebook. The band's next scheduled gig is a headlining slot at Bamboozle Fest, slated for the parking lot of the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on May 2.
