Britpop auteurs Suede have announced they will reunite for one night only for charity, according to the Sun. The gig, said to be taking place in March, has not yet been assigned a date. In what promises to be one of the most anticipated concerts of the year, it has been confirmed that guitarist Bernard Butler will not be taking part. Butler left the band in 1994 to be replaced by Richard Oakes, who is on board for the reunion.
Suede, led by the androgynous frontman Brett Anderson, split in 2003 having released five albums since their inception in 1989. Anderson has released three solo albums since, and worked with Butler as the Tears.
Online rumours suggest the gig may take place at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the annual Teenage Cancer Trust concerts.
Last year Bernard Butler scoffed at the slew of Britpop reunions taking place, saying: "I find it embarrassing personally. I think it's got no relevance to what's going on at the moment... I'm obsessively opposed to nostalgia."
