Carl Barat Considers 2011 Libertines Reunion

One aspect of the retro culture that came to be one of the characteristics of the noughties dictated that the bands that chose to reform had to have been apart for at least a decade or so. Just ask My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr and Pixies. With the Libertines, it seems that five years should be enough, according to the band's Carl Barât who has told the Evening Standard that a reunion could be on the cards for 2011.He said, "It's not definite definite. I can say 2011, but it's hard to plan the Libertines until next Tuesday. But 2011 is where there's room for that to happen. So if everything's all right, then, yeah, it would be glorious to get on the old jacket and venture forth, into the known."
Not that Barât is guaranteeing anything. Before any reunion is scheduled, a meeting with erstwhile partner Pete Doherty would have to be convened to ascertain if the pair could still work together. Moreover, it seems that Barât is willing to overlook his partner's well-documented drug use that caused him to kick Doherty out of the band.
"Well, once he's settled into his grooves, and he's fine, and he's not hurting himself or anyone else, then that's all fine with me," he said.
Barât is about to make his stage debut starring opposite Sadie Frost in a production of Sam Shepherd's 'Fool for Love' at London's Riverside Studios. Doherty, meanwhile, is due back in court next month after being arrested on drug charges minutes after being fined £2050 and losing his driving license for 18 months for careless and drink driving after appearing at Gloucester Crown Court.
