No sooner have electro-pop duo La Roux picked up two Brit Award nominations for Best British Single and British Breakthrough Act than singer Elly Jackson has declared her intention to change her vocal style for the duo's second album. With writing sessions under way for the follow-up to La Roux's eponymous debut with partner Ben Langmaid, Jackson revealed that the her new influences have affected the way she sings.
She told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, "The vocal style will be different. I've changed the way I sing, not on purpose, it's just happened."
She continued, "The type of music I like now is completely different. I don't listen to '80s music anymore ... obviously I still do, but not the same type of '80s music anymore. I'm into a lot more Italo disco and old funk."
Jackson acknowledged the pressure of juggling live work and writing new material saying, "All of our focus is on the second album now.
"We've already started writing it. We've got this week together next week together ... then two more weeks in April. We're trying to bang it out at the moment."
