Aerosmith on the Hunt for New Singer
- Posted on Jan 22nd 2010 6:08AM by Barnaby Smith
Despite the fact there has been no confirmation of Steven Tyler officially leaving the band, Aerosmith are reportedly sending out feelers for a new lead singer.Guitarist Joe Perry told Canada's QMI Agency that the band are "already getting the word out there, the word's been out there for a while."
He added that Aerosmith will "start having some auditions, making some phone calls. Hopefully we'll have found a new singer by the summer and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road."
Tyler remains troubled by an addiction to painkillers and checked into rehab at the end of 2009. At the time he quashed reports he was leaving the band, but with his problems ongoing it seems Perry's desire to set Aerosmith moving again might leave the singer behind.
Any replacement singer for Tyler however, may be temporary. Perry stated, "The rest of the band wants to play. And I want to play with the other guys in Aerosmith. So the four of us are just making our plans. We're gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot. Just like when Tom was sick -- we got David Hull to come in and play bass. When Brad was sick, we got somebody else to come in and play for him. That's basically how I look at it; we need another singer to fill in."

Yes there is no replacement for Steven, but if it's only a temp singer, why not Jeff Keith of Tesla. He has the voice and style that could compeliment Areosmith. He is also very good friends with Steven and I'm sure he wouldn't mind having one of his students of the business fell in.

Call it a day guys...sounds like it is time to wind down to retire like the rest of us - your peers.
Let the young groups take over. Nothing worse than has beens trying to stay warm & no heck in ever being hot again.
its about time they got rid of him he sucks!!!!

I don't wish to demonize Joe Perry, but, and this is a radical concept, why not let loose of the money machine's crank and do something new? The dynamics of the group are such, that any replacement will result in anemic watered down PRODUCT, that would be embarassing. If you are truly an artist create.

From the band to the crew they all should just pack hefty garbage bags for clothes because in the end they throw you away only to replace you.....
January 25 2010 at 8:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyjoe perry is so full of himself that he needs to be in the spotlight also he has a gaudy tour bus w/ his face slathered all over it he needs to pay for (the one that about run me down in sturgis) aerosmith is over this is about as stupid as reviving the jimi hendrix experience (no jimi) if they do get back together they should lose perry

It was a good record, and he had a good voice, similar range. But he just wasn't Jon Anderson, and Yes isn't Yes without him. I agree with Leah about Journey. I personally prefer the Greg Rollie years myself, but the Cain Schon, Smith, Valory and Perry lineup is still THE classic Journey lineup for most people. Styx tried it without Dennis DeYoung, and they ended up being a vegas act after that. Sam Halen / Van Hagar was good and they filled arenas... Hagar was as good a replacement as they could have hoped for at the time, and it helped that he was NOT like David Lee Roth because this allowed them to make a clean break and come up with a totally different sound. Hagar had his own following and was a good showman in his own right. They were a completely different band after that, probably with a lot of new and different fans, but not bad... Just not classic Van Halen. They really messed up bad when they fired Hagar and got that guy from Xtreme. Aerosmith probably ought to hang it up at this point. They're too old for the type of music they play. They're not like the Moody Blues or Yes who are also old, but can keep playing because their focus is on the music, not the image.
