In years past, Bruce Springsteen and Prince followed a similar format, resulting in both rave reviews and increased album sales. "A lot of the stuff that we do has that kind of celebratory vibe about it," Townshend tells Billboard. "We've always tried to make music that allows the audience to go a bit wild if they want to."
With sections of "Pinball Wizard," "Who Are You," "Baba O'Riley," and "Won't Get Fooled Again," all tapestried together, the crowd should indeed go "a bit wild" come halftime. Super Bowl XLIV takes place on Sunday, February 7 in Miami, Fla. and will be televised in the United States on CBS.
