U2 says its having a ball as it continues to make progress on the follow-up to 2009's 'No Line on the Horizon.' According to guitarist the Edge, the material that the group is crafting for its as-yet-untitled 13th studio album will cover a myriad of styles, from folk to electronic music."We are working on a lot of new songs," Edge told Entertainment Weekly. "Some of them are really, really happy. We're convinced that we have something really special. It's like deciding whether we are going to release the album before the tour starts or leave it for a while, we don't really know yet. Literally, within a day of getting off the road, Bono and I were working on new songs. On a roll."
As for the sonic approach, Edge explained, "We try and keep things moving forward. We are experimenting with a lot of different arrangements, and electronic is one of the things we are playing with. But there are other songs that are very traditional, almost folk. In some ways, that's the thing we haven't figured out yet, is where this album is going to end up. We're having fun with the process."
In addition to working on its upcoming disc, U2 has a busy 2010 mapped out. The band will launch the 2010 leg of its 360 Tour of North American and European 360 Tour on June 6 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. During the trek, which wraps Oct. 8 in Rome, the band will make its first-ever appearance at Glastonbury, celebrating the festival's 40th anniversary.
