The shortlist for this year's NME Awards have been revealed, with Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian slugging it out for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Video and the newly introduced Giving It Back Fan Award, which gives a nod to those bands offering their fans something truly special.Arctic Monkeys have also been nominated in the Best Track category for 'Crying Lightning.'
The nominations, which featured a live set from the Maccabees, were announced at London's Tabernacle venue last night (Jan. 25) and the winners will be made public at the Brixton Academy on Feb. 24.
Also nominated are Oasis who, despite splitting last year, are up for Best British Band, Best Video and Best Live Event.
"It's a good thing knowing we're still up for these awards," Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner told the BBC.
He added, "Kasabian have said that there aren't any other proper rock bands apart from us and them. I don't necessarily agree completely but I know what they're saying. I think we're just co-existing nicely."
Other multi-nominees include Florence and the Machine and Lady GaGa who are both up for three gongs including Best Solo Artist and Best Dancefloor Filler.
