Phoenix Go Acoustic on Bob Dylan Cover

Phoenix have released their cover of Bob Dylan's 1966 number 'Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands,' which they tracked in a recent acoustic session for Germany's Musikexpress. The French outfit's decision to cover the tune, which Dylan wrote for his then-wife Sara Lownds, may seem odd to fans familiar with sprightly tunes like '1901' and 'Lisztomania,' but the Versailles foursome makes the song its own. Originally 11-plus minutes in length, the song once took up the fourth side of Dylan's long-heralded 'Blonde on Blonde.' Phoenix do a more concise rendering, which can be heard at Pitchfork, at under five minutes, that loses none of the poignancy of the original.
In other Phoenix news, the band recently performed at Vancouver's Cultural Olympiad to kick off the 2010 Winter Games. They will attend the Grammy Awards on Sunday night where they are up for Best Alternative Album for 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.'
