Sure, it's the biggest night in music. But while taking home a Grammy Award is for many artists the climax of their careers, for others those golden statues have seriously lost their luster. Face it, Grammy: These artists are just not that into you.
"We just came to relax. We just wanted to watch the show. I don't know what this [award] is. I don't think this means anything." --Eddie Vedder, biting the hand that awards him during Pearl Jam's acceptance speech in 1996 for Best Hard Rock Performance
"You think I give a damn about a Grammy?" --Eminem, as heard on 2000's 'The Real Slim Shady,' which went on to win Best Rap Solo Performance the following year
"I didn't think they gave the rightful respect to hip-hop. DMX had an incredible album in 1999. He didn't get a nomination. I was like, 'Nah, that's crazy.'" --Jay-Z, explaining in 2002 why he was a no-show, despite his numerous nominations and wins
"A 50-year-old white man shouldn't decide whether we are relevant or not." --Pete Wentz, writing online after Fall Out Boy were overlooked for an award in 2008 (they also lost Best New Artist to John Legend in 2006)
"Man, f--- the Grammys! I couldn't care less about the Grammy Awards." --50 Cent, who has never won a single award despite being nominated 13 times, venting his spleen in 2009
"The Grammys = the old guard/old media propping up their puppets trying to convince the outside world (and each other) they're relevant." --Trent Reznor, whose group Nine Inch Nails have been nominated a dozen times and won twice in past years, sharing his opinion via Twitter on the night the 2010 awards ceremony aired
"The Grammys don't respect country." --Toby Keith, nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance in 2006, going public with his opinion in 2010
"This is the pattern of a dying industry ... [It's] probably why we can live in a society and vote people to offices where they don't belong ..." --The Dream, upset that his album 'Love vs. Money' was overlooked by the committee for 2010
"Does it really matter to us? No. Absolutely not." --Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert, on the group's 2010 Best New Artist nomination
"I think [Amy Winehouse] has a great talent, but I don't agree with the Grammys giving her those nods." --Natalie Cole, a former substance abuser herself, disapproving of Winehouse's winning spree in 2008 amidst a "stupor of drugs"
"I don't think they acknowledge hip-hop for being the true art form that it is." --Fat Joe, irked to find out on the red carpet that the award for Best Rap Album of 1999, which was won by him and partner Big Pun, was to be given off-camera

Except for Eddie, none of those people have the right to comment.
Lindyat 1-27-2010
Really Steve? You don't beleive that Jay-Z and Emenem have relevence? You might want to experiment once and wonder away from your classic rock channel...
Honestiat 1-28-2010
You have a right to comment, why don't they? And besides, anything that provides even an ounce of publicity for Eddie and company (such as this blog)is obviously worth it to them.

IT's interesting but, when was the last time you heard someone sing 70's punk rock on american idol?not the trendy stuff either.Striving musicians in all forms of music get denied just because of whats so cool and whats not.thats why I refuse to fall into some trend.Sure it's popular but, how long will it last?some say forever I have a reason to disagree.

Steve, I 100% agree. Eddie is the only intelligent musician on the list.

Yeah steve, Linda's right. I mean how can you not respect songs like "big pimpin" or "hi my name is"
Pott54at 1-28-2010
YES THEY DO....AND THEY DID - LOL!
Maybe people LIKE YOU shouldn't have the right to speak.

Why should the old fogeys be any less relevant than young rebels? Music is for everyone. The award is what it is. Or perhaps you haven't heard the golden rule; "he who has the gold, makes the rules". Nothing wrong with that either. If someone is risking millions of their money to produce a group that may or may not sell a copy, who better to have something to say? No one makes these people compromise their artistic integrity and go work for the big, bad record company, or listen to their advice. Isn't it ironic that now that these very same artists are successful, defined by having a few bucks, everyone cares about their opinion? No one interviews the musicians in the small clubs, out on the street, the guys who are really following the muse.

Emminem and Jay Z are two of the biggest artists of the past ten years. Although PearlJam was and still is a huge band, they dont come close to the success of Artits like Toby Keith, Emminem, Jay Z, 50 cent and Fall Out Boy have had in the past decade. Just like us as fans have the right to comment on the industry we love, they definitely have the right to comment on the industry that they are such a huge part of.

50 year old white men decide who has the best recording album of the year. Lol!!!!!!!!!!! But that's life in the music business. Just a thought does the same 50 year old white men decide how much money recording artist get in their contract and how much they are played on the radio? Jay Z response means nothing because he's riding the band wagon.
Kudos to 50 Cent, Eminem, Natlie Cole and the Dream.
Jon Sharpat 1-29-2010
Stop smoking crack, Steve.....Pearl Jam hasn't had a decent WHOLE album since Vitalogy.....Just from you're response gather you're a white collar cubicle cruiser going nowhere from frat-boy heaven about to cruise 40 with hair club for men on the mind (unless you got the balls to just shave it, which maybe "cool" in the cubicle scene now, I wouldn't know...)
Jon Sharpat 1-29-2010
Oh and by the way, I love Pearl Jam....and Hip-Hop....and Pantera....and Sly and the Family Stone....and Rage....and (yer mom was pretty good, too)
chuckat 1-28-2010
First and foremost, the idea of a 50 year old white guy choosing all of these artists is asinine. All artists that are nominated are submitted by labels and groups that belong to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. So it is a mix of all kinds of people, ages, ethnic groups, etc. who are responsible for selecting and nominating artists.
As for the reason why their choices are so poor the majority of the time? It's the same reason why people listen to such crappy music in the first place. They are simply following suit. They cannot think for themselves and need to look others to tell them what is good and what is not.
scottat 1-28-2010
just because you dont like everyone elses music doesnt mean its not good im 30 and i own every f.o.b. album and both silversun albums and theyre all awesome im bettin pearl jam is probly the only artist on here youve actually heard and thats the reason for your comment like i said just because you dont like it doesnt mean theres not fifty million out there who dont and that many people cant be wrong we like what we like which is why the fans should choose all awards the grammys the oscars acadamy awards all that crap is the industry awarding itself and its meaningless and all these artists whove commented on it are right
sparks6477at 1-28-2010
Isn't Eddie a Kurt knock off?
jjonahjameisonat 1-28-2010
oh shut up..
kasajoeat 1-28-2010
honestly i think slim wrote those first couple of comments just to bash the grammys and people who are stuck on classic rock or anything like it like pearl jam. whatever they can rock out too, maaannn, so yeah even if it wasn't(slim) i agree and just because rock came first doesnt mean its the best and all that pop celin dieon whatever crap, what about classical thats been shut out, and thats one of the oldest kinds of music, but i still think eminem and jay-z are two of the best performers today. and if you have never seen them, then shut up! cause you have no right to judge people by their stlye so to to all yall haters you are just ignanant yaeh go look that up
and how bout this rock the house slim!
W8N4ZRemixat 1-28-2010
With the exception of EV and JZ, I could care less what they think. They just need to STFU and dry the tears.
scootermadmanat 1-28-2010
Steve, I agree with you for the most part, though some others above I enjoy, Grammy worthy??? I have more of their peer's music than I have of them...And now they look whine ass poor loser Kanye wanna bees to me so I won't shell out to support.
