Charlie Watts Blasts Beatles and Elvis

What's up with the Rolling Stones? As they fast approach the anniversary of their half century of playing together, guitarist Keith Richards recently hopped on the wagon after decades of pummeling his body and now drummer Charlie Watts has told an Austrian newspaper that he's always hated the music of Elvis Presley and 60s rival the Beatles.The drummer, who is currently playing a series of concerts in Austria with blues-jazz ensemble The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie (named after the musicians in the band - pianists Axel Zwingenberger and Ben Waters, drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Dave Green), said, "I've never been a big Beatles fan.
"Of Ringo, yes, but not of the music. And I've always hated Elvis. He was the last one I wanted to use as a guide. Miles Davis and Fats Domino, yes, but Elvis, no."
The legendarily non-plussed Watts also said the he wouldn't be bothered if the Stones stopped rolling. "Honestly, I couldn't care less if it were over."
He added, "Jazz is my passion. This is the music that I really want to do. The Stones are merely an annoying pastime."
However, the Austrian tour's promoter, Willi Turk, was adamant that the Rolling Stones would be back in action soon.
He said, "The ABC & D concerts are only possible because the Stones are just taking a break. But when Mick Jagger calls, Charlie is ready. "

I agree with Anne. The Stones rocked, certainly on the same level, and in my opinion above the Beatles. And, don't blame the fact that Charlie has opinions on his age. That is just low.

You Beatle-haters are the ones who suck. If you don't like them, you don't like them. What are you gaining from going up and down on this thread and repeating the same thing? Did the Beatles injure you or start a war? They were just a band. Some people like them, some people don't. You all make it sound like it's a conscious effort in your day-to-day lives to bash them and proclaim loudly to the world that you hate them. People are saying the same thing about the Stones and Elvis, too. I think some of you are jumping on the hate-the-Beatles bandwagon just to be different and mean. The hatred is not stemming from an accurate assessment of their music, listened to with an open mind and knowledge of the music and social environment of the time, but ignorance and idiocy.

To Shane, Cindy, Ronda, Marko, James, Jone, and I say what I think: GET A LIFE! You all need to grow up. Commenting like junior high school brats with a limited vocabulary of the word "sucks" doesn't make your comments credible. Many of you never listened to their music, and just to be different, you go and say loudly on here that they were overrated and they "suck." You don't know the history of the music industry and how music evolved during the sixties. If you bothered to listen to the Beatles' music with an open mind, you would not make the comments you are making. Maybe it's just to get people like me to tell you off so you can get attention, or it's to sound smug. Being a great rocker doesn't mean you have to be a "bad boy."

I kinda think beatles suck a lot!
i have heard so many songs of them that i just couldn`t stand to listen to! I think they sound horrible!
i`m sure some people like them but i never understood why??? but i guess it`s just opinions and everyone don`t hear or see alike! Charlie has a right to his opinion! I love elvis but why waste my time trying to put charlie down just for giving his honest opinion! I would do the same! Any The Stones and Elvis Rock the Beatles NOT imho
