Roisin Murphy Concentrates on Motherhood With 'Momma's Place'

Roisin Murphy released her latest single, 'Momma's Place,' just one month after she gave birth to her first child, Clodagh, in December. The song, a funky electro house cut with Murphy laying down the law in a raunchy, soulful vocal, was released via her MySpace site and is part of the former Moloko vocalist's current no-fuss career plan."I had written so many tracks when I was pregnant that I thought 'Why not release a few and see if people like having a little boogie to them?'" Murphy tells Spinner. "It's so simple to do that now. It really hasn't taken that much -- I hope this doesn't sound awful -- but it hasn't taken that much commitment from me. I didn't do big video shoots or photo shoots. I just got the music out there because I might as well."
With the sleepless nights and busy days of being a new mom, the 36-year-old, who is known for her outré outfits and high style videos, has cut the hoopla for now and is simply making music. "I really can't commit to anything more at the moment," she says. "The music is the main thing anyway, but there will be videos and all these things down the line when I have time to commit fully to them. When I start doing them, I want to do them right."
Murphy, who splits time between homes in Ireland and London, is just a few weeks away from beginning work with Italian producers, Crookers. "I love their beats and how modern it sounds," she says, but as excited as she is to collaborate with them, Murphy doesn't wake up with a mad itch to knuckle-down in the studio. "No, I haven't had one of those days yet, but I'm sure it'll come. Right now, I'm just staring at my baby going 'ooh-ooh'. She's just so gorgeous!"
