French pop band Phoenix won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album during the pre-telecast portion of the awards in Los Angeles Sunday evening. Phoenix's 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,' their fourth full-length album and biggest commercial success, was nominated alongside David Byrne and Brian Eno's 'Everything That Happens Will Happen Today,' the Yeah Yeah Yeah's 'It's Blitz!,' Death Cab for Cutie's 'The Open Door' and Depeche Mode's 'Sounds Of The Universe.'
The foursome accepted the award, thanking their labels, publicity, and co-producer Philippe Zdar, who also produced the band's first album, 'United.' Lead singer Thomas Mars also gave a shout-out to his girlfriend, filmmaker Sofia Coppola.
