If you want to watch the big return of Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band to New York City on February 16, tough luck. Tickets for her "We Are Plastic Ono Band" event at BAM's Gilman Opera House sold out pretty much instantly. And, indeed, the show promises to be a big one -- special guests will include former member Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Bette Midler, Martha Wainwright, Scissor Sisters and members of Sonic Youth. That's in addition to other original members as well as new bandmates Sean Lennon, Yuka Honda and Cornelius. But because Ono isn't such a fan of tough luck, she has decided to give New York fans another chance to see her live. Same city, same venue, a day earlier. Technically, that would make it the band's first live performance in 40 years. That said, don't bother calling this a show -- in keeping with, well, all things Ono, she is positing it as a "once in a lifetime" chance to watch a Plastic Ono Band dress rehearsal. Tickets for the February 15 "dress rehearsal" are on-sale now through the BAM website.
Before you go clamoring to catch a raw practice -- which, actually, would be pretty cool -- keep in mind that the Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band has one other performance, on the other side of the country, at the Fox Theater in Oakland, Calif. on February 23. That event will be part of San Francisco's Noise Pop Festival. No, Ono didn't come up with that name for the festival... but she could have. She could have.
