Professional defendant and occasional indie rocker Pete Doherty has another date with the dock -- though, for a change, the charges aren't drug-related. The ex-Libertine has reportedly been summoned to stand before Lowestoft Magistrate's Court because of a hit-and-run accident involving his manager.Babyshambles manager Andy Boyd -- who has admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop at an accident scene -- was behind the wheel of one of Doherty's cars when he was involved in an incident in Suffolk back in September 2009. Boyd struck a 40-year-old pedestrian, leaving the man in hospital, in a "serious but stable" condition.
Boyd has also pleaded guilty to failing to report an accident, driving without reasonable consideration, driving not in accordance with a licence and without insurance, while Doherty faces accusations of permitting the use of a vehicle without insurance.
The silver lining for Doherty is that, rather than appearing at the Lowestoft court in person, he is entitled to enter a plea by post or have the case heard in his absence. Last time he appeared in court it led to further charges after heroin fell out of his pocket while being searched by security.
