Michael Jackson Doctor's Surrender Plans Put on Hold

Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, will not be turning himself in to the LAPD today as planned, his lawyers say. Apparently, heavy rains in Los Angeles caused the sheriff's department to ask that Murray hold off on his surrender, fearing the weather would cause "havoc," according to WENN.As reported earlier this week, Murray will face charges for involuntary manslaughter after treating Jackson's insomnia with an injection of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives, which the coroner said led to the singer's death. The Los Angeles Times reports that negotiations between prosecutors and Murray's lawyers regarding the surrender are continuing. The police apparently want to arrest Murray and place him in handcuffs rather than let him turn himself in to a court house, with Murray's lawyer, Ed Chernoff saying, "It would be plain silly to turn this into more of a show simply so the police can get their photo op."
An anonymous official in the district attorney's office claims that the arrest would be going above and beyond what's necessary, as Murray has no criminal past and isn't a danger to society. Police, however, allegedly believe that allowing the 56-year-old physician to turn himself in would send a message that Murray is being given special treatment that shouldn't be allowed for someone who's charged with causing a death.
Whenever it eventually happens, Murray is prepared to give up his passport and post the $25,000 bail to keep him free pending a trial. The D.A. expects to file the charges Monday.
