Steven Tyler 'Auditioned for Led Zeppelin'

With all the fuss surrounding the is he/isn't he status of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, his one-time toxic twin Joe Perry has claimed that loyalty isn't necessarily the singer's strongest point. He revealed his partner secretly auditioned for Led Zeppelin after Robert Plant nixed any further activity after the band's one-off reunion at London 02 Arena in December 2007.Taking to Classic Rock magazine, Perry said, "Steven disappeared and I called around. Somebody said he was in London trying out for Led Zeppelin. It's something I've never talked about before. It's a kind of window into how hard it's been to keep the partnership together. It's not the first time things like this have happened -- that's the downside of our relationship."
The guitarist went on to say that Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page had told him personally that the rehearsals with Tyler were "shambolic". This was down in part to Tyler's unfamiliarity with the Led Zeppelin back catalogue and labouring under the misapprehension that the band would be working on new material.
Said Perry: "Page felt really awkward about the audition, but ultimately it was a group decision (to pass on Tyler)."

What about Chris Robinson. I saw Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes, It was awesome, He(chris) was excellent. Besides They are truly (crowes) the only ones keeping the faith so to speak as far as REAL rock n roll is concerned.

I can see why Ray & Robby chose Ian over many other vocalists to tour with them. Ian is a great singer and frontman but he was more suited to The Doors material rather than Zep's material. After almost 30 yrs I doubt Plant has any real intention of ever rejoining his former bandmates. I know this is going to piss alot of people off but anyone can be replaced in a band. I would be more than happy to see Jimmy, JPJ, & Jason doing Zep songs with another vocalist. It's not my 1st choice but since time is running out for these guys I'll take what I can get. Just like I did when they toured as solo acts and then finally together (JP & RP) back in the 90's.

The Yardbirds would be a better fit for Steven Tyler.

I think Plant knows that he is a different singer now and doesn't want to touch what he cannot replicate. Now, Plant could sing some of the songs that are still in his range and or duet with another vocalist. The tribute to "Freddie" by Queen is a great example, some of those famous singers just looked like they were estatic to be able to perform some of Queens classics, can you imagine what it would be like for Zeppelin to do a tour like that, it would be the biggest thing. Zeppelin is just too BIG to just find another front man period. I think Plant might have a change of heart if he sang some duets with singers of his or the bands choosing.

If they have to tour w/o Plant, The lead singer for The Black Crows is the best choice. If you want proof, check out the 2-disc Jimmy Page and The Black Crows Live. Enough said.
