"No, it's not Oasis, that was a s--- name anyway," Gallagher told DJ Clint Boon. "I'm glad to see the back of it."
The singer refused to be drawn on what the new band's name will be.
"There's a name that we're digging at the moment, but we're going to get on with the music and see how it goes."
However, rumours and theories of a partial Oasis reunion are gathering momentum with news that bookies have stopped taking bets on the band's 1994 debut album, 'Definitely Maybe', scooping the award for Best Album from the Last 30 Years at the Brit Awards later this month.
Winning the award would give the younger Gallagher a sense of closure.
He said: "It would close the Oasis thing for me if we won it. I'd thank the fans. It would be a nice thing.
"I want people to vote for us, for the best album of the last 30 years. I want to go. I want a night out."
Oasis face competition from Coldplay, Keane, Dire Straits and Phil Collins among others and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Feb. 16.
