MGMT are set to release their second album, 'Congratulations,' on April 13, with a few special guests, Spin reports. The record features Royal Trux's Jennifer Herrena helping out on vocals, Spaceman 3 principle Sonic Boom producing and the group's live band contributing as well. They also tapped 'Oracular Spectacular' producer Dave Fridmann for mixing duties and spent time recording in upstate New York, Brooklyn and Malibu. While we've known that one of the tracks, 'Lady DaDa's Nightmare,' was indeed about the ubiquitous pop star Lady Gaga as well as Kanye West, we're now learning that the group has rounded up a bevy of other influences this time on the nine-track set. The title track is said to be about fame and the current economic climate and the tune 'It's Working' was inspired by lead singer Andrew Vanwyngarden's new found love of surfing.
But it doesn't just stop with that one song: the most interesting news comes via the reported 12-minute long track 'Siberian Breaks,' a tune that Vanwyngarden told Spin is "like eight different songs strung together in one, and the general theme is about surfing in the Arctic Circle by Russia." All in all, Vanwyngarden seems pleased with the band's sophomore effort, saying "we dropped any sort of irony that was on the first record, and 'Congratulations' feels true to who we really are."
The tracklist for 'Congratulations':
1. 'It's Working'
2. 'Song for Dan Treacy'
3. 'Someone's Missing'
4. 'Flash Delirium'
5. 'I Found a Whistle'
6. 'Siberian Breaks'
7. 'Brian Eno'
8. 'Lady DaDa's Nightmare'
9. 'Congratulations'
