Rage Against The Machine to Play Free Victory Gig
- Posted on Feb 9th 2010 4:34AM by Julian Marszalek
It's only the beginning of February yet the battle for last year's Christmas number one slot seems like such a distant memory. Well, it's soooo 2009, isn't it? Of course, the more razor-minded reader will recall Rage Against the Machine's convincing victory over the Simon Cowell-sponsored Joe McElderry (oh come now - you must remember Joe McElderry? 'X Factor' winner? Ring any bells now?) when 'Killing In The Name' stopped 'The Climb' doing just that.At the height of the scrap, Rage Against the Machine promised to play a free gig if they secured first place and it now seems that the political rockers are every bit as good as their word.
According to Download Festival and Live Nation promoter Andy Copping, the victory gig will be going ahead. Writing on his Twitter page, Copping said: "There should be news regarding the free Rage Against The Machine gig late next week..."
The precise location and date of the free gig is still a matter of speculation as is the status of 'X Factor' supremo Simon Cowell who the band want to be compere for the gig. Whether he'll be a good sport or not remains to be seen.
