Road Report: Diane Birch Gets a Warm Welcome From Her Midwest Fans
- Posted on Feb 11th 2010 6:00PM by Diane Birch
Last month, Diane Birch showcased her soulful piano rock on the road alongside Nick Jonas and the Administration. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter went on the U.S. run in support of her debut album, 'Bible Belt.' In this Road Report, Diane offers fans a personal tour pictorial of her Midwest travels, complete with first-hand stories of the fans she met along the way. After a nice little east coast run we headed out for the good ol' Midwest! Detroit was our first stop, and although there was a somewhat melancholy tone to the city, the moment we walked into the legendary Fox Theater, everything changed! "WOW" is basically the only way to describe this venue. Built in 1928, this palace of sorts is the second largest theater in the country. Backstage it was a tag-fest! I was pretty honored to sign my name on the wall next to so many amazing acts and it's all because of YOU!
The Detroit crowd was just as spectacular as the surroundings, and I totally enjoyed the meet & greet after the show! These guys were the sweetest! I was truly spoiled with an amazing sign and a beautiful painting of guess who? We did a little posing before the night was over...we're suckers for that can't you tell?
After a great show....i was truly sad to leave :(. Next stop was one of my favorite cities...CHICAGO!!! After doing a few interviews backstage, we hit the stage for a fantastic set!!! I was feeling extra fiesty, I must say. Not only did I get to meet loads of amazing fans, but I got to spend some time with my boyfriend's family after the show and chow down on some home-cooked grub! We spent the night with Ariel's family at their place right on the lake! So beautiful :). His dad drove us around the next day a bit and I was particularly impressed with the Bahai temple...
After a lovely and HUGE brunch together and a wander around Wicker Park, we said our goodbyes and headed out in the van for a short five-hour ride to St. Louis! Fortunately, everyone seemed to get enough sleep :). My ever-so-lovely niece Megan, who happens to be going to school in Kansas City, decided to drive out with her friend for the show! It was so great to see her considering it's usually just once a year at Christmas! She had never seen me perform before, so I think it was a pretty good way to introduce her to my live show, as well as Nick's! I'm pretty sure she and her friend had some good stories to tell their friends back in Kansas City!
As usual, we were all our giddy selves and there is never a shortage of laughter...especially when Eric starts doing his Michael Jackson moves! TOUGH! The fans afterwards were the sweetest!! My favorite was this little dude who made me sign his forehead!! I was also presented with the most beautiful handmade earrings by this fabulous man, who was finger painting during my meet & greet. On the back of the earrings he engraved the names of the trombone players who played with me on Letterman last year as well as the date of the St. Louis show! He was an old soul for sure! After a whole bunch of fun we headed out on more bleak roads for Milwaukee...
