The Killers have cancelled some of their upcoming live shows in Australia "due to the severity of the illness of a close family member," it was announced on Thursday (Feb. 11).The band's shows at the Sydney Enmore venue on Friday Feb. 12 and at this weekend's Good Vibrations festival -- in Sydney on Feb. 13 and Perth on Feb. 14 -- have all been pulled.
In a statement, the band, fronted by Brandon Flowers (pictured), said, "The Killers had hoped that the Australian leg of their current world tour would be completed as planned, but due to the severity of the illness of a close family member, they regretfully announce the cancellation of their Sydney Enmore show as well as their shows at Good Vibrations Festival."
The Las Vegas-based band expect to be able to perform at the Gold Coast and Melbourne Good Vibration festival shows on Feb. 20 and Feb. 21 respectively.
Today's statement continues "The band apologises to their Australian fans and asks for their understanding."
The band also deny rumours they are planning to go on hiatus, assuring fans "that any concerns about the future of the band are unfounded, they are all looking forward to some time off at the end of this tour as they have been on the road for a long time."

I had the pleasure of shaking Brandon Flowers hand at the Madison Square Garden concert last year.. I am 63yr old woman but my music has always been my saving grace..I cannot express my appreciation for Brandon and his band.I find the killers music gives hope.. You kids are young but you get life...I am sad to hear about Brandon's Mom... I was diagonised with cancer had two bouts of it.. I was told that I would die..it has stayed away since 1998 but you never know..one day at time is all we have.. If all Our days are numbered than why am I still counting... those lyrics help me when I am down. When I heard dustland Fantasy I thought that the inspiration could have come from his Mom... I know I really related.. I wish you all peace and love...And especially healing for Brandon and his family...Love is forever..You killer Kids rock.. Barbara from NYC
