Carly Simon Launches 'You're So Vain' Fan Video Contest

If you're so vain that you just know Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain' is actually about you, well, now might be your chance to prove it to the world. Want to direct the one and only official video for the classic rock mega-hit? OK. Do it.Spinner has partnered up with Simon and Isis Records for this unique contest -- the winning entry will have their video screened on AOL and at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this April. Simon will personally view all the entries and will pick the winning filmmaker, whom she'll then congratulate in person.
While the video can be whatever you want it to be, Simon has created a template of tools -- including recently-shot green screen footage and stills -- in the event that you want them. It's all up to you. You can grab the tools along with the complete contest rules at Simon's official website.
The contest coincides with 'Never Been Gone,' Simon's current release that features the singer-songwriter revisiting some of her classics, including a new version of 'You're So Vain' that is actually about you. Or, at least, that can be, depending on what you choose to do with it in the video.

You sound like a very vain person? Your comment on Carly is despicable and uncalled for. If you don't like Carly so be it but have some respect. What right do you have to put judgement to her. Carly is one wonderful "Lady",and has given me beautiful music in my life,and in my childrens and my grandchildrens life in her music and her books. I have everything Carly has put out in her life. And have enjoyed every song and books. Thank you Carly for the enjoyment you have given me and my family.

First of all, Carly Simon will NEVER, ever be "washed up." She has found a way to express in one song more truth, beauty and wisdom than most of us will ever be able to articulate in our entire lives. And she has not just done it in one song, but in many....
And it doesn't matter how old she is. She is, was, and always will be, a truly beautiful woman. Physically stunning, sexually alluring, and spiritually radiant.
As for the identity of the person to whom the song "You're So Vain" was written... it's a game! It's for fun! Isn't if fun to guess whom it is about and simply not know? I think it's great that Carly is still tantalizing us with the mystery. Frankly, it may be a little disappointing when and if we ever find out for sure.
I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for Carly Simon.
