Aerosmith Performing With Steven Tyler at Download Festival
- Posted on Feb 16th 2010 11:00AM by John D. Luerssen
So much for the demise of Aerosmith. After months of speculation about the future of Boston's legendary hard rock quintet, the band -- replete with vocalist Steven Tyler -- has been confirmed by promoters to perform at this June's Download Festival.Slated for Leicestershire's Donington Park the weekend of June 11-13, news of the group's headlining slot comes as an unexpected surprise for fans. Reports that the band was looking to replace Tyler, bolstered by guitarist Joe Perry's own admissions and rumors that the group had considered everyone from Sammy Hagar to Lenny Kravitz to Paul Rodgers, began after the group became estranged from its frontman.
Tyler, who has been undergoing treatment for an addiction to prescription painkillers that he developed after his fall from the stage in Sturgis, S.D. last year, is back in the saddle, for now.
While there's no word on what's next from Aerosmith -- who celebrate 40 years together this year -- the Download performance is one certainty fans can count on. Other acts confirmed for the Download Festival include Rage Against the Machine, Them Crooked Vultures, Stone Temple Pilots and AC/DC.

I agree wholeheartedly that Aerosmith would not be as good a performing band without Steven - I have been a fan since the 1970s when I first heard him - courtesy of my sons - have been to several concerts here in Florida - he is really GREAT and they definitely need to hang on to him!

What was he given stronger than morphine? If you want to get high, I guess you take as many as the RX allows.Mine only allows 120 a month.

Look forward to hearing them again during their upcoming tour.
He hasn't been sober for some time now. He's been in and out of rehab. You are the one who needs to watch the news, etc. He and Joe Perry were and always will be opiate addicts. The difference between Perry & Tyler is that Tyler has relapsed. Yes, he can get clean and sober and stay that way, but he obviously fell off the wagon and needs some help. That being said, I hope he has a speedy recovery and stays clean.

February 17 2010 at 2:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI saw Areosmith in Atlanta this past summer and it was really bad. I love Areosmith. I was shocked at how bad it was. Stephen Tyler was there and when I left I felt robbed. the worst concert I have ever been to.I still want my money back. He sat on a stool and sang 45 min. or less. Its time to retire.

Had he been clean & sober, the performance would have been unbelievable. I saw them in June and the show was over the top. Not saying he was clean then, however, as addiction progresses and the need for opiates grows, the person is so zonked out they can't function. If he gets clean and stays clean, his performances will once again be great.

There's no need to rush back into touring if he is still battling addiction, and if he's not ready, he shouldn't. The band doesn't want him back unless he's clean however long it takes. Granted, a replacement is not what people want to see, but it's not about people, it's about Tyler's sobriety. He should only go back to touring if he's ready to stay clean. Props to the rest of the band for doing their own thing (Joe Perry & the Joe Perry Project is having an awesome tour and they sound great!) and being patient. However, if Tyler can't commit to himself or to the band at some point, the band needs to do what is best for them.
