"Thanks so much for having me back!" With these words Florence Welch -- of Florence and The Machine - won the award for Best British Album at the Brit Awards Tuesday night (Feb. 16).A year on from bagging the Critics Choice Award at the same ceremony, Florence's album, 'Lungs,' waltzed away with the most prestigious award of the evening beating Dizzee Rascal, Kasabian, Lily Allen, and Paolo Nutini in the process.
Despite being nominated for three awards -- she was also in the running for Best British Solo Female and Breakthrough Artist -- Welch waited until almost the end of the ceremony to scoop the coveted prize which was presented by fashion designer-turned-film director Tom Ford.
A nervous Welch hunted for a crumpled list secreted on her person before thanking friends, family and supporters.
Earlier in the night, she had joined fellow winner Dizzee Rascal on stage to perform a special version of 'You've Got the Love' spliced with Dizzee's own 'Dirtee Love.'
