Perry Farrell Keeps Coachella Streak Intact
- Posted on Feb 16th 2010 2:00PM by Steve Baltin
Since Coachella began in 1999, Perry Farrell has been there in one incarnation or another. Whether with Jane's Addiction, Satellite Party, DJing under his DJ Peretz moniker or guesting with some of his electronic music friends, Farrell is the only artist to play every year in the Southern California desert. While astute fans may have noticed his name doesn't appear on the poster released with the initial 2010 lineup, Farrell tells Spinner he will in fact be there to preview some of the dance music he's been working when not writing with Jane's. "We're gonna break out at least like four singles," he says. "We have more than that. We've been writing as you know, digging deep in the hole, getting tracks from different people like Kaskade." And he has something special planned to unveil the new tunes. "I'm gonna be working with Steve Porter, an incredible producer and he's a video producer as well," he says. "What's magic about him is not only does he produce music, but he produces videos simultaneously and it's really like pop culture video."
While the streak will go on, Farrell admits it wasn't a given this year. "I was not gonna do it," he says. So what happened? "I was talking to some of my friends that are gonna do it, and they were inspiring me. I started really feeling like I was gonna miss it. When they start telling you what they're gonna do I went, 'Oh no.'"
